humor is subjective. what makes you laugh may make someone have the same reaction you do now. different brains different experiences different senses of humor. nothing to be done about it, and telling someone something isn't funny has never gotten them to stop thinking it is, so just let people enjoy some harmless comedy and move on with your own life.

Terrible. You let people enjoy things. Enjoying things is fine. It's not being able to admit something is garbage, over rated, etc. And like others have said, some things are better enjoyed in certain scenarios. Like EDM/club music. I don't listen to that trash on my own time, but if I'm in a club I generally like to go to a place that plays that type of music. And people are more than welcome to listen to and enjoy artists like Cardi B or Ariana Grande, but it's the ----heads who act like their music is actually good or their songs' lyrics are thought provoking. That's when you're ----ed up.

It's simple. His obsession with the boots leads us to believe he would be overly skeptical of anyone who said they saw them. Thus, the "describe them" portion. The 2nd character then gives a very vague and basic description, leading us to believe the first character in this situation would not believe such things. Instead, he believes instantly, subverting our expectations ever so slightly and making us chortle.

If i remember correctly she says "i see boots" he very serious and reserved slowly "describe them" she without missing a bit and fairly enthusiastically describes them and then he matches her squeamish excitement that "that's them!" a very significant portion of comedy is delivery and this exchange is fairly well-acted sure it doesn't carry to ----ty text reposting but what do you expect ------ to upload the actual clip... haha

Also there's no way someone would be that stupid. I mean, there's retarded characters that make it funny even tho nobody would do that, like when the IT crowd boss checks if the revolver is loaded by shotting at his mouth. That's perfect delivery. Maybe bc it was unexpected.
But you can see this joke coming from a mile away. It's lazy, it's stupid, it's bad acted. Only brain dead people or zombies, the same kind that laugh at "bazinga" would find this funny.

I don't care much for the "let them enjoy things" concept (ironic on FJ since it will destroy anything in line with the don't think just consume Star Wars crying guy) but comedy is very subjective and sometimes the dumbest things will make the smartest people laugh. Geniuses can still be caught in a giggle over a fart joke.

Dumb jokes can be delivered genuisely. Like with Norm MacDonald. Or something can be portrayed as dumb masterfully.
This joke however is just Big Bang theory tier of "there's your cue, find this funny".

Like I said, subjective. You don't find it funny but there is no real "fact" of what is funny. There can be a general consensus, a majority, a norm, but no de facto humor. I didn't find it very funny either but I don't disparage someone for getting a laugh out of it.

The difference is things that are actually funny, in how the people said it or the intelligence or level of truth in the joke
And there's I'm not even funny but I recognize I must blow air out of my nose or do the movements because I've been programmed all my life to react that way, even toh it's not funny.

Your wording is very confusing in this comment. In the end it seems like you just want to argue a subjective thing as fact. You can't. When you take up an argument like that you are automatically wrong. You can say that you don't think it is a joke (although it has everything it needs to be a joke) because a joke is a defined concept. There are parameters to what a joke is. There is no such parameter to humor. You cannot strictly define it so you cannot strictly define if anything is funny or not.
#59 to #58 - selfdenyingbeggar

[-]
The difference is there are things that are actually funny, they're funny in how the people say it, or the intelligence of the joke (the ligical connections that are involved to get it), or the level of truth the joke contains
And, contrary to that, or opposed to that, there exists "It's not even funny, but I recognize I'm supposed to find this funny bc the audience is laughing, so I will blow air out my nose, force my laughter, because I've been programmed all my life as to how I need to respond to these circumstances or how to react to this particular stimuli".

Yea, things like laugh tracks are supposed to make people feel more comfortable to laugh but that doesn't negate the fault in your argument. It's subjective. If I take a good joke and surround it in gimmicks like laugh tracks, it doesn't affect it existing as a joke at all.

Everything isn't relative or subjective.
That our experience is subjective only means that people will decid eon their own, like, some people might be sexually attracted to ----.

I was reading the rest of the thread and laughed when you said you value truth but try to argue over something so subjective as humor and try to assert yourself as factually correct. You're a joke that doesn't know how to tell what's a joke.
You got mad at a fact I pointed out and tried to exaggerate it to "everything is relative", which I didn't say at all just because you didn't have an actual argument left. You told someone you were mad that the world is full of idiots but you are the dumbest person in this thread.

All of you go automatically to the "oh, it's subjective, so we can't tell if it's right or wrong, funny or not".
-----, you can taste if a stake is delicious or not. If music's too loud or not. And if something's funny or not.
you just shy away from it bc we can¡t measure it as good as we'd measure some thing's height, but you're still a human being who can experience something and can tell when something is retarded. Example: the Big Bang Theory's bazinga.
So ---- off with your postmodernist "everything is relative" bull----.

You're throwing a hissyfit over a joke that you didn't like.
Take a step back, a deep breath, and a moment to actually consider this argument and your place in it. You're being unreasonable. I lean towards an assumption of autism or aspergers, but even that doesn't fully justify the amount of ahit flinging you're doing over a joke.

Actually no, it is always better than the things when I actually see them live, like in that "i don't even like cheese" "that makes it worse" it was funnier in my mind than the actual scene.
This joke isn't funny for two main reasons: first, the reaction of the dude, it's so fake, he can't act
two, the joke in itself is just so lazy and retarded. So stupid it is predictable. There's nothing funny about it and yet people laugh like tht 4 yeard old laughter meme.
It's just conditioned behavior. They were taught "you should consider this funny" even tho it isn't.

You work a long day, you work out joylessly because you aren't really in shape but you don't want to die, you go home and mow half the lawn because your dumbass teenager stole some gas from the gascan because he was going to be late to a mandatory after school function (you're pissed he didn't think ahead like any functioning person would do but he got to his thing on time so you can't be too upset) it starts raining by the time you sold the mystery and make it back from the gas station, your wife burnt dinner but is really upset about it so you can't eat AND have to put on a happy face because otherwise you know she'll think you're upset with HER again. There isn't any beer in the fridge and you know you don't get paid until next week, your wife is skipping Starbucks to make it through so you can't justify going out and buying beer plus you just want to settle for the day. Little Timmy thinks you hate him because he got in trouble at school today for talking to his little friend AGAIN in class and you had to go home and play discipline. You eat your leftover Mac and cheese just trying your best not think about the useless meeting at work tommorow or turning down going out with the younger employees to the bar again, they make less money than you do but don't understand having a mortgage and three kids to put through school (you still really want to go though). You sit down and on comes one show you and your wife and kids can all agree on watching about young successful people hanging out with their friends and having simple issues that can all be resolved in the next 30 minutes. You look back and remember having close friends, with all your inside jokes and fresh new careers, flirting and hanging out at the bar, when the future was open and full of possibilities. You see one of them make an obvious joke, a small brain fart, the cute friend plays it off and you hear people laughing. You laugh a little too, not because it was particularly funny, but because the memories were good, you hear people laughing, and sometimes it feels good to just let yourself laugh. You finally relax a little, it wasn't very funny but it let you forget about your problems for a little bit, so maybe you'll come back next week to give it another shot.

However, I wouldn't say that you should kill yourself, but work on becoming not a slave.
For example, ditch the beer and the mind numbing shows, if you're tired, go to sleep already. If not, read a book with useful information.
Get more active in the education of your children so you can save them from becoming idiots.
Make love to your wife.
Idk, anything but just resigning yourself to your fate and let yourself slowly rot.
